Hurricane Sandy 2

Today is just another update from the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. We had a lot of issues and we are still feeling the effects. Even though I have power, a lot of my friends and neighbors in NJ are still in the dark and the cold. Feel free to share your stories in the comments.

Now that power is back I can share a short story in an effort to reach out and start a conversation.

Chainsaws and Jelly

{Mp3}

In this episode Dave LaMorte sits down with Sheena She and discusses the Newark art world, underground Hip Hop, and her website Chainsaws and Jelly. There aren’t a lot of websites that highlight the amazing things that art happening here locally, and Sheena covers a breadth of topics. She really supports her local scene.

There is so much New Jersey love in this episode my teeth hurt from thinking about it.

You should also check out the NewMediator MixTape on our Bandcamp page and our Kickstarter. Support your scene.

NewMediator.org is an audio podcast about visual art hosted by Dave LaMorte. We discuss creativity, visual art, and the people who create our world. You can find the links we discuss and listen to the episodes at NewMediator.org.

Today’s episode is an interview with New Jersey artist Marsha Goldberg. She is an accomplished artist who has shown all over the country and internationally. I became familiar with her work when it was on display in two different shows at the Alfa Art Gallery in New Brunswick, NJ.

We discussed  painting, her approach to mark making, and her upcoming show at the B. Beamesderfer Gallery in Highland Park, NJ.

Her show’s opening at the B. Beamesderfer Gallery (6 N. 2nd Ave., Highland Park, NJ) is on April 19, 2012 from 5-7 PM.

I won a bagel date for two to Ruthie’s in Highland Park!

My belt project won third place overall. My goal was to get the winners to wear the belt, but I didn’t want to twist anyone’s arm at the show. I’m happy it one, but I almost threw this piece out before the show. I was most proud of my Nyan Cat project bellow.  The Nyan Cat is about 7 feet long and 4 feet high, made entirely of small paper notes and glue I bought at the local dollar store.

Both projects cost me about $5 in material costs.
